POLITICAL Standing for September 4, 2009
Every week Political Standing tracks who is up or down in New Hampshire politics

UP
Kelly Ayotte: Remember her? Her opponent, Paul Hodes, gave her a nice end of summer present: he took attention off her with his own problems and allowed her to do what she should be doing: keeping her down down, raising money and making the rounds locally.

Ted Gatsas: With the release of the first fund-raising reports and a few debates this week is there any doubt as to who the front-runner is?

Joanne Dowdell: The Portsmouth woman is the newest at-large member of the Democratic National Committee

DOWN
Paul Hodes: Hodes had a rough week with local press coverage (particularly the Nashua Telegraph), but these were self-inflicted wounds. Just imagine how the debate would be framed differently if he had simply called his forums "town halls."

John Lynch: In the long-run who cares who is to blame with the union negotitations, when you have the quotes from union heads calling for Lynch's head in the newspapers it is never good. The Labor Day Breakfast on Monday should be VERY interesting.

Carol Shea-Porter: She had a very savvy counter punch at week's end, but for the first time Fox News and the right seem committed to making her the Michelle Bachman of the Democratic Party.

Karen Testerman: The trial balloon that she could run for governor has not been treated seriously even among some social conservatives.
